Handbag heaven
So, there I was, innocently sauntering down towards Bond Street on Friday night, en route to the fabulous Bearded Ladies recording (which has already been elegantly reported on by Patroclus) when I passed this:

It actually brought me to a dead halt. How had I never noticed this shop before? And how long had this 50% sale been on?
So, having hot-footed it back there on Saturday, I can report the following:
1) Ollie & Nic are purveyors of lovely leather and fabric handbags in a wide range of colours and styles, at non-scary prices;
2) Their shop in St Christopher's Place has been open for three weeks (giving me an excellent excuse for having missed it - I was out of the country);
3) Every single bag in the shop is on sale at half price;
4) All the stock is beautifully laid out, meaning there are no horrid sale rails to make everything look cheap and nasty;
5) Amongst the handbags (have I mentioned them?), they also sell jewellery and other girly things by the likes of Johnny Loves Rosie and Bombay Duck, though not all of these are on sale.
Mr P seemed to have read most of Saturday's Guardian by the time I had made a purchasing decision, but still there when I left were an enormous, tropical-print weekender for the frankly bargain price of £40, and the acceptable face of the metallic fad, a lovely shoulder bag in a subtle bronze, which was sorely tempting.
Ended up leaving, however, with of all things a white leather bag. At one time this would have been second only to white stilettoes on what was then known as the Essex girl scale, but fashion is fickle and so am I. Must get some Scotchguard.

Oh why oh why do I not live in London! I have to make do with TK maxx, who do actually have some of those tropical print Ollie&Nic bags in their Bristol branch. What I really want is the tweedy one with dragonfly pin though.
Ah, yes, they're about £25 in the sale, I very nearly got one of those too. Sorry.
Though if you're *really* desperate, feel free to email me with a picture of the one you want and I could see if they've got any left...
... :(
I think it's actually in the picture, the one on the right, in front. But I have too many bags, I really do. (well I know that's not technically possible, but I'm going to move house soon and I am not looking forward to lugging a suitcase full of bags.) Sigh.
Ah, I know that feeling all too well. The eBay bag clearout starts this week, I am rapidly running out of room for any more.
The offer's still there if you change your mind, though.
wow, i think i need to move to london!
i'm very into bags right now - i bought 5 on holiday (i know, only 5, but then we wouldnt have been able to fit them in the suitcases) but i need more!
Bloody hell, poppy, five? That's rather a lot even for me, you know. Perhaps it's just as well you don't live in London, I'm not sure it could sustain your bag habit.
Be warned, it starts off with one (or, in your case, five) and before you know it, it's a lifelong obsession...
heh heh, for most girls it's shoes (it is for me too) but for me it's mostly bags. i could set up a bag shop here.
i love the foreign bags - the way they have their calvin klein and louis vuitton and gucci look-a-like bags.
when i'm a millionaire i'll have a bag for every day of the year. yay.
P.S. after a re-count it's 6. my mum bought a bag i also liked - i thought it was for her but she bought it for me. yay!
I never seem to leave the computer. Gotta write this though. I enjoyed your site. Liked it bunches! Best
